Outdoor
Holidays on Vir can be really interesting and relaxing. Vir is a genuine paradise for bathing, swimming and sunbathing, with its indented coast which is mostly natural and made of sand and pebble beaches next to pine forests and a crystal clear sea, which makes this island perfect for a family vacation. The light summer mistral alleviates the summer heat and provides very good conditions for surfing and windsurfing. The rocky coast in the northwestern part of the island, rich in marine flora and fauna, is an attractive diving area for those in love with the depths of the sea. The multitude of bays and inlets with harbours and anchorages provides yachtsmen with the possibility to land on one of the 300 islands and islets, among which there is also the Kornati national park. Apart from swimming, surfing, windsurfing, scooter driving and other watersports, those who like to walk can enjoy the wonderful panorama scenery of the whole island, the surrounding islands and the Velebit mountain (1750 m) from the Bandira peak (112 m). The island of Vir is also the perfect choice for mountain-biking. Starting from Vir, there are various excursions to national parks on offer: Paklenica with its impressive canyons, the Kornati archipelago with 200 islands and islets, the Krka waterfalls and the famous Plitvice lakes. In the immediate vicinity, there is also the old Croatian royal city of Nin, with the smallest cathedral in the world (the cathedral of the Holy Cross), and the 3000 years old city of Zadar with its famous sea organ, and its city core rich in historical monuments.
